Workshops

Welcome to the Brackish workshops. If you’ve got a strong back and an open heart, if you’re spicy-brained and/or queer in any sense of the word, if you don’t fit into neatly defined boxes, if you’re learning to lean into your inner rebel, if you’re an advocate or a champion, if you write, make or mend, if your middle years are cracking you wide open, or if you’re feeling the call of the wild… you’re in the right place and I’ve created these workshops just for you.

01. Cultivating Hope

The first workshop is called Cultivating Hope, and that’s exactly what it will help you to do. But this is not about passive optimism—‘defiant hope’ is an active and courageous choice. If you’re ready to make it, we will…

  1. Work through the feelings that are keeping you stuck and move them out of your body so you can get out of ‘fight, flight or freeze’ mode and into a calm and connected state.

  2. Reconnect with nature and spend time engaging with the more-than-human world in a way that reminds you that we’re all connected and inspires you to take action.

  3. Start to find actions that align with what you’re good at and what you enjoy so that you’ll want to keep doing them even when the news cycle is overwhelming.

How it works:

Cultivating Hope is a self-paced course, taught over three short video lessons.

You will also receive a PDF overview – if you do nothing more than download and work through the three stages outlined in that PDF, you’re golden!

The videos will remain accessible for as long as this course exists, so you can go at your own pace and come back to it as many times as you need to.

All videos are fully captioned and written transcripts and audio-only versions are available to cater for different learning styles.

The course is eventually going to cost £47, but for a limited time you can get £20 off, and buy it for just £27.

02. The Seed

The second workshop is called The Seed, and it is about overcoming overwhelm and feelings of helplessness in the face of everything that’s going on in the world (which is a lot, I know!), so that you can figure out what your unique contribution to tackling the climate and biodiversity crisis might be. If you’re ready to go deeper and find your environmental* superpower, we will…

  1. Get super clear on your values so you can make aligned decisions, instead of constantly trying to keep up with what you “should” be doing.

  2. Find the contribution that you—and only you—can make.

  3. Identify work that plays to your strengths, that you enjoy, and that supports both your creative practice and the planet.

  4. Visualise the difference you will make to keep yourself on track.

  5. Get super clear on who your audience is to make sure this work will resonate with them.

  6. Motivate you, your team (whether that’s paid employees, a ragtag band of freelancers or a cheerleading team comprising your bestie and your dog), and your audience to come with you on your journey.

(*While this is framed in terms of environmental contribution, the same process can be applied to any form of change-making for a better future.)

“Thank you so much for The Seed. I gifted myself a week of learning and conversations, and what a gift! I learned so much, and I now have a newfound energy. I am working on understanding myself, how I am connected to all of nature, and finding my part in this future—a future that I can and want to be a part of. I was genuinely quite sad when it ended, but the decisions and steps I have already taken as a result feel right and important.” – Charlotte Warren

"The Seed really helped me to work out what my values are—and they are actually a bit different from what I had thought they were before. It also helped me to get more clarity on who I am designing and making for and what change I am trying to bring about. Now I can get on and do it, and hopefully in a more focused way!" – Harriet Page

“Katie has opened a space where kindness—towards oneself and to the world—is the main element of the equation. The Seed is an inclusive and respectful environment driven by an uplifting energy; an invitation to question and observe where and how to start; and to realise that by just being here, you have started already—no action is too small. The seed—or the sparkle that relights the hope that we can all be part of the solution wherever we are on our path.” – Virginie de Man

FAQs:

  • Do I have to do Cultivating Hope before I can do The Seed? » No, not at all. They work very well as a pair, but they also stand alone, so dive in wherever you feel called to.

  • How are the workshops delivered? » All the workshop materials are hosted on an online platform called ThriveCart, so you can find everything in one place and track your progress as you move through the content. You will receive immediate access as well as a series of reminders by email to keep you on track. (You can cancel or reset these at any time.)

  • What’s included? » Both workshops include a series of videos (with audio versions and transcripts) and email reminders to keep you on track – The Seed also includes a workbook and a ‘read/watch/listen’ list for those who want to dive deeper.

  • How long will I have access to the materials for? » You have access to all the workshop materials as long as the workshop exists, so you can work through at your own pace and revisit as many times as you need to. I can’t promise ‘forever’, but I have no plans to retire them in the foreseeable future and will give you plenty of warning if that changes.

  • Are the workshops delivered live? » No, these are online self-paced workshops, so you can move through them at your own pace, fit them around other commitments and access them from any time zone.

  • Is there a Facebook Group or Substack chat? » Currently, these are stand-alone self-paced workshops without an associated community, but if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.

  • What accessibility measures have you put in place? » I know that everyone has different learning styles, so there are videos, but if video is not your thing, I have also included an audio-only version for you to download. The video has captions available. Just click the play button and the little 'CC' button in the bottom right of the video. If you prefer to access a transcript, you can click 'watch on Loom' in the top right of the video and you can view and download the transcript in the right-hand panel. If you're spicy-brained, I can also recommend watching or listening on 1.5x speed while doodling, knitting or sewing – that works for me!

  • What if I really want to take part, but I can’t afford to? » Shoot me an email on katie@katietreggiden.com, and we’ll figure something out. I never want a lack of financial means to be a barrier to this work.

  • What if I’m not happy with a workshop I’ve bought? » You can have a full refund, no questions asked. Dive into either workshop. If at any point before completion you feel it’s not teaching you anything new or it’s not relevant to your world, hit the brakes. Reach out to me before you finish the workshop. (That part is crucial. If you complete it, I will take it as read that you found value in the content.) And I’ll refund every penny. No hard feelings. No lengthy processes. (NB Under the UK Consumer Contracts Regulations, you have the right to cancel a course or workshop within 14 days. However, this assumes that you have not accessed the material. This policy offers more: a full refund at any point before completion.)

  • Got questions I haven’t answered? » Email me katie@katietreggiden.com, and I’ll be happy to help.
